Helicopter approach path indicator (HAPI)
The LB-HP-HAPI Helicopter approach path indicator (HAPI) system consists of a single lighting to provide a visual indication of the correct approaching path of the helicopter. The HAPI uses patented, LED-based optics to achieve the lowest power consumption, highest intensity and sharpest green/red transition. This Helicopter approach path indicator (HAPI) can be customized as a solar type. Compliant with ICAO Annex 14 volume II, FAA AC 150/5390-2B Heliport Design Guide, CAP 437 standards.

LB-HP-HAPI Helicopter approach path indicator (HAPI)-Visual guidance
The LB-HP-HAPI Helicopter Approach Path Indicator (HAPI) System features a lighting module with a lens system that divides the light into four separate segments:
- Flashing Green Light – Helicopter above the optimal approach slope (too high)
- Fixed Green Light – Helicopter on the correct approach slope
- Fixed Red Light – Helicopter slightly below the optimal approach slope (slightly too low)
- Flashing Red Light – Helicopter below the optimal approach slope (too low)
Depending on the pilot’s viewing angle relative to the system, the pilot will see either a flashing green, fixed green, fixed red, or flashing red light.
The signal repetition rate of the flashing sectors shall be greater than 2 Hz. In accordance with ICAO requirements, the HAPI is capable of elevation adjustment at any desired angle between 1° and 12° above the horizontal, with an accuracy of ±5 minutes of arc. The HAPI system will switch off automatically when the vertical misalignment of a unit exceeds ±0.5° (±30 minutes of arc).
